Italian Mid Cap Stocks

Technical Analysis

The Italian stock exchange has always been closely linked to the banking sector, although this has diminished in importance with the passage of time. The FTSE MIB index this year was one of the best in Europe, but it would still be interesting to see if other Italian indices are also frequented by buyers, and if they have increased the relative strength. A brief analysis can be made on Italian midcap stocks. In the chart below we have the Ftse Italy Mid Cap Index, compared with the Stoxx Europe Mid 200 euro price Index. As we can see, the index of Italian Mid-Caps compared to the European index has not yet exceeded the historic high of 2007. However, it is interesting to note its relative strength, which from 2012 continues to make increasing lows and highs (r1), until the important downturn at the end of 2018. Since then, the indicator has had a rather lateral trend of relative strength (r2), which therefore indicates a situation of parity with the European index. It should be noted that two weeks ago the price of the Italian Mid-Caps index up crossed the short-term bearish trend line (1) and this is still a good sign for this sector.
