History of the Association

SAMT was founded in the late eighties in the Zürich area by Gaston Nyffenegger and Rolf Bertschi but was somewhat dormant in its early years. Thanks to the charismatic leadership of George Clement who acted as President from 1991 to 1996, SAMT became a fully-fledged organization with chapters in Zürich, Geneva and Lugano.

Bruno Estier was president from 1996 to 2009. During this period, the SAMT Logo was created and the society set up a course in Technical Analysis in links with the Centro Studi Bancari, in Lugano Ticino and established contact with the SFOA (Swiss Futures Option Association). Further in October 2006, SAMT organized the Annual Technical Analysis Conference of IFTA in Lugano, which was a great success.

The association represented a dynamically growing forum of professionals and private participants in the Swiss financial industry using technical analysis as a powerful tool to cope with the rapidly developing fast moving financial markets.

The about 150 member strong non-for-profit association seeks to heighten standards of professionalism and promote contact and co-operation between the industry and regulatory bodies. SAMT is a member of the International Federation of Technical Analysts (IFTA).

SAMT maintains close contact in Technical Analysis education matters with the Market Technicians Association Educational Foundation, with the Centro Studi Bancari in Vezia, Ticino (www.csbancari.ch) and with the Institut Superieur de Formation Bancaire in Geneva (www.isfb.ch).
