Five of the seven IFTA chairmen were present at the Lugano conference. On the photo from left to right past chair 1992-1994 Robin Griffiths (STA), outgoing chair 2004-2006 Bill Sharp (CSTA) , the nominated new chair 2007-2009 Elaine Knuth (SAMT), past chair 2001-2003 Hiroshi Okamoto (NTAA) and past chair 1998-2000 Bruno Estier (SAMT) . Past chairs John Brooks (MTA) 1995-1997 and Ralph Acampora (MTA) 1987-1991 could not attend this time.

Currently the president of SAMT is Daniel Stillhart Chief Technical Strategist at LB(Swiss) Private Bank, located in Zurich. Daniel presents the latest technical trends regularly on the international financial television station CNBC and the German N−TV Teleboerse.
The almost 265 member strong not-for-profit association seeks to raise standards of professionalism in Technical Analysis and promote cooperation between industry and regulatory bodies. SAMT is a member of the International Federation of Technical Analysts (IFTA ). SAMT was founded in the late eighties in the Zurich area, but was somewhat dormant in its early years. Thanks to the charismatic leadership of President George Clement, at that time at Bank Leu, Zurich, SAMT became a fully-fledged organization in the early nineties with chapters meeting in Zurich, Geneva and Lugano. These chapters represent a dynamically growing forum of professional and private participants in the Swiss financial industry using technical analysis as a powerful tool to analyse the rapidly changing and fast moving financial markets.
SAMT has maintained close contact with the Swiss Futures and Options Association (SFOA) and has held many joint events with SFOA and also contributes regular articles related to Technical Analysis to Swiss Derivative Review (SDR ) which it has adopted as its official publication in Switzerland. In addittion., SAMT works on technical analysis education matters with the Centro Studi Bancari in Vezia , Ticino, www.csbancari.ch , under the Ticino chapter; and with the Institut Superieur de Formation Bancaire in Geneva, www.isfb.ch.
For the Swiss German chapter, the Vice president of SAMT, Elaine Knuth, currently President of IFTA and Principal of the Advisory Stewart Capital Management, in Zurich presently manages the chapter. The new Treasurer and Vice-President is Louis Grosjean presently advisor of a FX fund located on the lake Zurich. Timothy Straiton, Director of Straiton & Partner, Asset Management in Zurich is the newly elected Vice-President and assumes responsibility of web site and IT administration.
The chapter counts of active support from Charles A. Amlinger of AAC (Assets Allocation Consulting) and Thomas Caduff (ICN Trust).
For the Swiss Italian chapter, the responsible are Dr. Alessandro Angeli (MFTA) of T & F Asset Management S A and SAMT Vice-President Alberto Vivanti of Vivanti Analysis in Lugano., who are establishing their regular meetings near Lugano at Centro Studi Bancari,Villa Negroni in Vezia . That chapter counts also on the active support of Beat Amman, long time technician and partner of Future Trend.
For the Swiss French chapter, the meetings taking place in a new location in the center of Geneva are coordinated by the responsible Vice-President Bruno Estier. Bruno was Chairman of the IFTA board from 1998 to 2000.
The Swiss French chapter counts also on support from Jean-Marc Guillot, MFTA FX stategist with Union Bancaire Privée.
